Dr. Frances Wen, a clinical health psychologist, has worked in academic primary care for 20 years. Her main research interests focus on the health effects in adulthood of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and on training health care professionals to work with adults affected by ACEs. She has contributed to over a dozen grant funded educational, research, and program projects. She is currently leading the implementation of a grant awarded to the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine (OU) which received a 4-year, $14.1 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), with 10% from nongovernmental sources. This grant augments how we identify and nurture career interests in primary care and develop future physicians knowledgeable and empowered to deliver high quality, transformative primary care to meet the needs of tribal, rural, and medically underserved communities in Oklahoma. As Director of Research for the Department, Dr. Wen provides overall supervision of the Division of Research, provides guidance in research design and statistical analyses for investigator-initiated research projects, and directs the research and scholarly activity curriculum for the residency program. She also directs the behavioral health curriculum in the residency program in her department, within which trauma-informed care is a major thread.

Dr. Juliana Meireles earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, and Master’s and PhD degrees in Psychology from Federal University of Juiz de Fora (Brazil). Her studies have focused on understanding the multiple determinants at the individual, familial, and societal-context levels that underlie mothers’ mental health during pregnancy and postpartum. She has conducted and collaborated on qualitative and quantitative research studies in partnership with several departments and universities. As a Senior Research Assistant for the Department, Dr. Meireles provides assistance to faculty, residents, fellows, students, and staff in all phases of research and scholarly activity projects, such as collecting and analyzing data, keeping records, conducting literature and technical research, and preparing reports. She facilitates quality improvement projects with the residents, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) trainings, and research presentations, such as the Department of Family and Community Medicine Research Day.
