Dr Dimitrios Diochnos is an assistant professor in the School of Computer Science at the University of Oklahoma (OU). Prior to joining OU, he worked as a Hobby postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Virginia. Earlier he held a research associate position at the University of Edinburgh. He received his PhD degree from the Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He received his MS degree from the Department of Mathematics at the University of Athens, Greece. He received his BS degree from the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications at the University of Athens, Greece.

The main areas of his research are in the theoretical and practical aspects of supervised learning with emphasis on machine learning models that operate on noisy/adversarial data.  Dr Diochnos is currently working on semi-supervised learning techniques, online/streaming learning, and on theoretical foundations of imbalanced classification problems.  Dr Diochnos is also interested in randomized search heuristics and their effectiveness in learning with formal guarantees.  In the past Dr Diochnos has also worked in reasoning with knowledge bases as well as in symbolic computation.

The work of Dr Diochnos has appeared in top conferences such as  NeurIPS, ALT, AAAI, SDM, ICMLA, FUN, and EuroGP, or top journals such as the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research, the Annals of Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence, Information Processing Letters, and the Journal of Symbolic Computation.

Dr Diochnos has served as a member of the program committee in major artificial intelligence venues such as NeurIPS, AAAI, and IJCAI. He has also served as a reviewer in top venues such as SODA, ICALP, and AAMAS, or top journals such as SIAM Journal on Discrete Mathematics, Discrete Applied Mathematics, and Annals of Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence.  Since 2012 he has served as the publicity chair for the biennial International Symposium on Artificial Intelligence and Mathematics (ISAIM).  Since 2022 he is serving as an Associate Editor in the journal Annals of Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence.  During 2024 he also served as Managing Associate Editor on the same journal.  In 2020 Dr Diochnos was also a co-editor on a special issue of the Annals of Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence journal that was devoted to ISAIM 2018.  Finally, Dr Diochnos has also served as a member of the international scientific committee for the International Olympiad in Informatics that was held in Athens (Greece) in 2004.
